What’s good

The catch
- You need an EGO power head to run it. The attachment alone won’t do anything on its own.
- There’s a setup step every time: blade guard on, and the breaker bar fitted to handle kickback. Skipping it isn’t an option.
What it is
The BCA1220 is EGO’s brush cutter attachment for their multi-head power head system. Instead of string, it swings a reversible metal blade big enough to cut sticks, branches and small trees. It works with any EGO power head, the carbon fiber one or the older model, and shares that head with the rest of EGO’s attachments.
What I found using it
I was genuinely surprised by how much power this thing had. Going around some brush and cutting through different branches and small trees, it powered through a lot without struggling. The BCA1220 works better on the high-speed setting, and that’s where I kept it for the heavier stuff. For smaller plants and clearing a garden bed of overgrowth or leftovers, it chops right through.
There’s a setup you have to respect. You need the blade guard on, and you need to fit the breaker bar. The breaker bar is there so that if you catch kickback, it sends the tool to your side instead of letting the whole thing lunge forward. I’d also strongly recommend a shoulder strap. It makes carrying this around for a longer stretch a lot more comfortable.
Who I’d tell to buy it
If you own an EGO power head and you’ve got real overgrowth, brush, or small trees to clear, this is an easy add. The BCA1220 is lightweight, it’s powerful, and it does exactly what a brush cutter should. If you don’t have a power head yet, this is a good reason to buy into the EGO system, since you can add a string trimmer or pole saw to the same head later.

This is a hands-on from real yard work, not a lab test. Nothing here is a score. The BCA1220 is what happened when I ran the BCA1220 along the edge of my property and through some brush.

Living with it
For clearing the rough edges of a property, this earns its place. The reversible blade and the raw power let it handle stuff a string trimmer just wraps up on. A shoulder strap makes a real difference if you’re carrying it around for a while.
Like the rest of EGO’s attachments, it needs a power head, but that’s also the appeal. One head, and you can add a trimmer or pole saw later. The BCA1220 is a solid way into the EGO ecosystem if you’ve got heavy overgrowth to deal with.
